Cameron Twynham put on an impressive performance on his Porsche Supercup debut with MOMO-Megatron-PARTRAX last weekend after finishing 12th at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (May 9/10).

As one of the youngest drivers in the competitive one-make field, 19-year-old Twynham ended his weekend on a high by finishing as the highest-placed Porsche newcomer and scoring valuable points in the Spanish Grand Prix support race.

The BRDC Rising Star qualified his 911 GT3 Cup 16th, but a fantastic start in Sunday’s race saw him move up to 11th position before contact with another car pushed him wide and back down to where he started.

An incident on the opening lap between Sven Muller and Connor de Phillippi that resulted in a Safety Car period prevented Twynham from making early progress, but he was soon on the pace when racing resumed.

Indeed, the Market Harborough teenager was posting consistently competitive lap times amongst much more experienced drivers and had moved up to 12th when contact with another car hindered any further progress through the 28-car field.

“There are tonnes of positives to take from the weekend,” enthused Twynham. “From my perspective, I perhaps could have got a better result if it wasn’t for the contact, but the car was awesome and it’s encouraging to know that we can be pretty competitive.”

The success of Cameron’s Supercup debut followed only one week after an outstanding showing at the Nurburgring’s Porsche Sports Cup Germany round. “I think it definitely helped boost my confidence going into the first race of the season,” he continued . “I knew that the competition would be tougher here in Barcelona but it was still great preparation.”

In what was a strong performance at the Spanish track, the young Briton was delighted to bring his weekend to a close with important championship points ahead of the next event, which takes place around the iconic Monaco.

Despite having never raced at a street circuit, Twynham is looking forward to the challenge ahead and has high hopes of a successful weekend in the Principality.

“It’s really cool to be doing my first street race at one of the most famous circuits in the world,” said an eager Twynham. “I know it’s going to be difficult, but I’ve watched enough laps, done my time in the simulator and am feeling pretty prepared. I’m looking forward to it!”

Round two of the Porsche Supercup takes place in Monte Carlo on 23/24 May, an official support race to the Monaco Grand Prix.
