PS Racing and Black Arts Racing-PSR drivers excel in dramatic race action
Mon 22, Jun, 2015

In the wake of excellent results in Official Practice Friday, where PS Racing’s Sebastien Mailleux took P2 in class despite a brief 4-lap run, and Maxx Ebenal of BAR supported by PS Racing took fastest in class, luck held with the team for qualifying at 9am yesterday morning.

Under a brilliant blue sky and a hot 35C track temperature, in qualifying Mailleux impressed with P2 in class while Ebenal of BAR-PS Racing took 3rd in class.

However, after strong results for PS Racing in qualifying, Saturday afternoon’s Race One proved that Asia Formula Renault can be incredibly dramatic.

On the very first lap, bedlam struck when BAR’s Thomas Luedi was struck by another car while completing a pass at over 200kph in Turn 3. In the ensuing chaos, PSR’s Sebastien Mailleux managed to swerve out of the way just in time to avoid a collision, but PSR’s Thomas Swift lost grip while swerving as well and impacted into the tire barrier, his race finished. With the safety car deployed for this incident and then later in the race for a car spun and stopped in the high speed T14, PSR’s Sebastien Mailleux took a fantastic 2nd overall in class while BAR’s Maxx Ebenal stormed from 11th to 4th in the short race which was only 6 laps because of the two safety car deployments.

After Sunday’s driver’s autograph session in the promotion area with over 30,000 fans in attendance, Race Two took place at 3 :45pm under the threat of rain. Despite brief drizzle while the cars were on the grid waiting for the formation lap, the track quickly dried. . This time, all drivers had a solid race with Maxx Ebenal taking a fantastic 2nd after a solid pass on rival Pu Jun Jin in Turn One during the second lap, and Sebastien Mailleux finishing 3rd in class. Thomas Swift put in one of his best  performances to date to finish 4th in class with a laptime within hundredths of Mailleux.

The exciting Asia Formula Renault Championship will continue with Rounds 7&8 on July 11-12, at the world-famous Shanghai International F1 Circuit.
