Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup points leader Josh Cook will step across to SV Racing’s Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup arm for the penultimate round of the season on the world-famous Silverstone circuit (27-28 September).
Bristol’s Cook joined Alex Morgan, Ant Whorton-Eales and Ash Hand in SV Racing’s UK Clio Cup fold as a last-minute KX Akademy scholar and has led the team’s charge since the earliest stages of what has developed into a super-competitive season.
The 23-year old has notched up two pole positions, six podium finishes and five race wins in the first 16 rounds of Britain’s premier one-make saloon car championship and holds a slender advantage at the top of the points table heading into Brands Hatch’s season finale.
Keen to maximise his title chances by staying fresh and focused, Cook is set to clock up more track mileage when he samples SVR’s second GT4-spec Ginetta G55 at ‘The Home of British Motor Racing’, Silverstone, this weekend (27-28 September).
The KX-backed driver will use the outing to assess his options for 2015 and beyond, but also hopes to act as a rear gunner for teammate and GT4 Supercup title contender David Pittard at what is a critical juncture of the season.
“My ultimate aim is to race touring cars, but the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup is definitely an option for next season and going down the GT racing route is definitely a possibility for the future,” said Cook. “I’m going to give it a really good go but, having never raced a rear-wheel-drive car before, it will be a learning curve. The Ginetta G55 is quicker and more powerful than a Clio Cup car, but any half-decent driver should be able to adapt quickly between the two. I’m not expecting any miracles and there are no specific targets, but it will be nice to go racing and get away from all the politics we’ve experience in the UK Clio Cup recently, while racing alongside David (Pittard). . I don’t want to interfere with the championship too much, but I’m certainly going to get stuck in and I’m definitely a team player.”
