Cook takes a clean sweep of victories for SV Racing at Snetterton
Mon 04, Aug, 2014

SV Racing with KX’s Josh Cook leaves the Snetterton ‘300’ circuit with two more race wins under his belt and a firm grip on the championship lead in the Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup (3 August).

A dramatic start to Round 12 of Britain’s premier one-make saloon car championship at the Norfolk circuit saw Cook lead the pack away on the first lap after Mike Bushell stalled at the line, while Ant Whorton-Eales capitalised and was able to move into second place by the end of the first lap.

Ash Hand suffered heavy contact on a first-lap incident with another car, which damaged his steering considerably and didn’t allow the 19-year old to demonstrate the front-running pace of Saturday's race. One of his rivals was later penalised for causing the incident.

Despite fantastic pace, Alex Morgan went unrewarded after contact from another competitor sent him off-track and ended his race prematurely.

At the halfway mark of the race, Cook and Whorton-Eales controlled from the front. A move from Paul Rivett at the Montreal hairpin split the pair and saw him pass Whorton-Eales for second place before a battle broke out, the latter in hot pursuit.

Ahead of the pack, Bristol-based Cook continued to pull away from the field and was never challenged during the second half of the race, taking his second victory of the weekend and sharing the podium with fellow KX recruit Whorton-Eales rounded out the podium positions in third, as Hand finished on the edge of the top ten.

“It has been a good weekend for us and SV Racing guys gave me a fantastic car all weekend to qualify in second and take two wins,” said Cook. “My confidence was high after testing and qualifying and I can’t wait to see what we can do at Knockhill now. I have never been there before so I will be learning it on the test day, but I generally pick up tracks pretty quickly. I look forward to that and the challenge ahead.”

Whorton-Eales added: “It would have been nice if Josh (Cook) and I could have finished one and two, but we had a really big headwind and (Paul) Rivett got behind me at the Montreal hairpin, where he read the situation really well and got past cleanly. We are only just halfway through the season now, I want to make the most of it and consistently score some more podium finishes to end the year on a high.”

After achieving a fourth-place finish in Saturday’s first Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup race, David Pittard was bitterly disappointed with his end result.

A notable lack of straight-line speed hindered the KX Akademy driver and saw the team work well into the night to try and diagnose the issue.

Bolstered on Sunday morning, the Letchworth Garden City-based Pittard was keen to make amends in race two.

A lack of speed looked to hinder him on the straights once more, although the three-time racer winner defended strongly and held his own when a battle broke out mid-pack, narrowly missing out on a podium finish in fourth.

For the third and final race, Pittard was to line up on reverse grid pole position and had everything to gain.

Unfortunately for the team, it was not meant to be. A faulty wheel nut sheared off on the warm-up lap and meant the KX-liveried Ginetta G55 had to be pushed back into pit lane, where it was rendered unsafe to race.

The team will now regroup and look ahead to the next round of the Courier Connections Renault UK Clio Cup and Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup at Scotland’s Knockhill circuit (23-24 August).
